"Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell. But come, young waverer, come, go with me. In one respect I'll thy assistant be. For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love." (2.3 95-99) The love Romeo recites can't be read. But come here, come with me. I will marry Juliet and you because this may make peace between the feuding households. This shows that Friar Lawrence is a wishful thinker. This passage is significant to the plot because Friar agrees to marry the two to end the feud; the Friar agrees to be part of their love affair. This foreshadows the start of Friars involvement in Romeo and Juliet's relationship.
"Hold, daughter, I do spy a kind of hope, Which craves as desperate an execution As that is desperate which we would prevent. If, rather than to marry County Paris, thou hast the strength of will to [slay] thyself, then is it likely thou wilt undertake a thing like death himself to 'scape' from it; And if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy" (4.1 69-77). Calm down, I have a solution. You would have to be very desperate to do it. If you don't want to marry Paris and are already ready to kill yourself then you should do it. It's like death and you will escape from all of this. If you really want it then i will give it to you. This shows that Friar Lawrence is intelligent. This passage is significant to the plot because this is the point in the play where Juliet becomes desperate to do anything to get out. This foreshadows the start of the chain of events that lead to Romeo and Juliet's death.
"I will be brief, For my short date of breath is not so long as is a tedious tale. Romeo, there dead, was husband to that Juliet, And she, there dead, [that] Romeo's faithful wife. I married them, and their stol'n marriage day Was Tybalt's doomsday, whose untimely death Banished the new-made bridegroom from this city, For whom, and not for Tybalt, Juliet pined. You, to remove that siege of grief from her, Betrothed and would have married her perforce To county Paris. Then comes she to me, And with wild looks bid me devise some mean To rid her from this second marriage, Or in my cell there would she kill herself. Then gave I her (so tutored by my art) A sleeping potion, which so took effect As I intended, for it wrought on her The form of death. Meantime I writ to Romeo That he should hither come as this dire night To help to take her from her borrowed grave, Being the time the potion's force should cease. But he which bore my letter, Friar John, was stayed by accident, and yesternight Returned my letter back. Then all alone At the prefixed hour of her waking Come I to take her from her kindred's vault. Meaning to keep her closely at my cell Till I conveniently could send to Romeo. But when i came, some minute ere the time Of her awakening, here untimely lay The noble Paris and true Romeo dead. She wakes, and i entreated her come forth And bear this work of heaven with Patience. And she, too desperate, would not go with me But, as it seems, did violence on herself. All this i know, and to the marriage Her nurse is privy, And if aught in this Miscarried by my fault, let me old life Unto the rigor of severest law" (5.3 238-278)
This will be quick, since I'm out of breath. This will be short for this is a long story. Romeo who is there lying dead was married to Juliet, and Juliet who lies there dead was the faithful wife of Romeo. I married them, and that day was the day Tybalt was killed. Romeo was banished from this city causing Juliet to sadden. Not for Tybalt, but for Romeo. You to make her feel better was going to marry her to Paris. She then comes to me for a solution or else she would kill herself. I then proceeded to give her a sleeping potion that will make her sleep but seem dead. In the meantime I would write to Romeo and tell him to come take Juliet away from her grave. While the potion took its affect, Friar John returned me my letter because it could not get to Romeo. Then while she was waking up I came to take her away with me and later Romeo take her away. But when I came around the time Juliet woke up, laid Romeo and Paris dead. I tried to have her come with me but i heard a noise and was scared away and Juliet to desperate would not leave with me, so i left. But by the looks of it Juliet seemed to have killed herself. All this is true and the marriage of Romeo and Juliet is prior knowledge of the nurse. If this is my fault then let me take the blame and be punished.
This reveals that Friar feels blame for what happened to Rome and Juliet. This passage reveals what was the true story and Rome and Juliet to their families and Prince. It show what the parents hatred has done to their children.
